Mercedes Benz AMG to replace 6.2L V8 with 5.5L twin turbo V8 units
If you’re a fan of big engines – something like the 6.2L V8 in the new SLS AMG – you better get your hands on one soon, because AMG is considering phasing out the engine next year. According to Dr. Thomas Weber, a member of the board at Daimler AG Group Research & Cars Development, the 6.2L V8 will be replaced by a twin-turbo 5.5L V8 at the end of 2010. Speaking to Inside Line , Weber didn’t discuss any horsepower numbers; nonetheless you can expect the engine to be more fuel efficient. Weber said that AMG won’t be the only vehicles seeing the change next year. Other 2011 models will also be getting V8 twin-turbocharged units. An official announcement is expected at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. – By: Kap Shah Source: Inside Line
