Mercedes-Benz AMG to replace 6.2L V8 with 5.5L twin-turbo V8 units
If you’re a fan of big engines – something like the 6.2L V8 in the new SLS AMG – you better get your hands on one soon, because Mercedes-Benz AMG is considering phasing out the engine next year. According to Dr. Thomas Weber, a member of the board at Daimler AG Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, the 6.2L V8 will be replaced by a twin-turbo 5.5L V8 at the end of 2010. Speaking to Inside Line , Weber didn’t discuss any horsepower numbers; nonetheless you can expect the engine to be more fuel efficient. Weber said that AMG won’t be the only vehicles seeing the change next year. Other 2011 Mercedes-Benz models will also be getting V8 twin-turbocharged units.
