When the GM bailout by the US and Ontario governments took place, there were a good number of non essential marketing efforts that were discontinued. Obviously this included a good chunk of The General’s playtime motorsport activities. Truth be told, other than generating marketing dollars, many forms of racing contribute little or nothing towards product development. Yes NASCAR fans, I’m talking about your taxi cabs. The Corvette racing program for the American Le Mans Series on the other hand is the very pinnacle of performance technology and this tech actually does affect production of GM’s product line. Tell that to some of the greenie bleeding hearts though. While the video after the break has lots of feel good stuff for Vette and race fans alike, make no mistake: it is completely aimed at those who think all motorsport spending should be cut.
