What would comedy be like if Douglas Kenney was alive? Hard to say, but the man who helped found National Lampoon and served as a co-writer of both Caddyshack and Animal House can be judged by the company he kept: Chase (in his most fertile era), Ramis, the Murrays, and O’Rourke to name just a few. After a not-so-positive initial response to Caddyshack , Kenney fell deeply into depression and substance abuse. He retreated to Hawaii where he was found dead, at age 32, at the bottom of a cliff. Harold Ramis joked “Doug probably fell while he was looking for a place to jump.” Despite his death we’re left with the influence of his comedy, as seen in spiegel1 ‘s response to the new EPA window sticker .
